TDE Episode 16: The Power of Cats and Dogs on Social
Anne: Whenever I get stuck creatively, there’s this one line that keeps ringing in my ear. It's a popular phrase that not a lot of people know is actually biblical: there is nothing new under the sun.
Carl: Is that saying still applicable today where we live in the age of AI and the possible discovery of life on other planets?
Anne: And the reason why I thought of this old adage is because I think of all the millions of content creators in the world that feel that pressure to always produce and create content. When you come to think of it, there is nothing new under the sun. But it’s really about a new way of looking at things, a new perspective, or seeing something in a different light to make new discoveries. I mean, sure of course with scientific and technological discoveries, there will always be innovations, but they’ll mostly fall under a subset of something that’s already been previously discovered.
Carl: In our industry, there will always be new tips for social media content creation and exploring the best ways to captivate your audience so you can leave a lasting impression on their hearts and minds.
BUT creating content for social media isn't just about posting random pictures or catchy phrases; it's about building authentic connections and showcasing the essence of your brand or business.
Anne: I do wanna argue that when it comes to content about animals, it’s never random nor purposeless. It’s always relevant. That’s just a personal bias. And I know millions of people agree with me judging by the views, likes and shares of a post with a dog or a cat. Even more so if it’s farm animals. Like Emmanuel the Ostrich from knucklebumpfarms, and there was this trend on TikTok called #thechickenwars where farmers did this whole thing about calling their flock of chickens. But not even just a flock but like a whole herd of hundreds of chickens. It was the funniest thing to watch and we’ll link it in the show notes. But yeah, animal-related content is always interesting.
Carl: Speaking of interesting, so despite things not being “new” under the sun, there are ways to “reinvent” the way you craft enriching content so you can elevate your visibility and engagement on social media platforms.
So if you’re feeling stuck about what to create or feature on your social media, hope these suggestions can help. I know a lot of content creators hate the feeling of being stuck so let’s get that creative juices flowing again.
Behind the Scenes - Bringing Your Audience Closer
Carl: Our first content creation tip is all about giving your audience a sneak peek into the magic behind your brand or business. So doing behind-the-scenes content. And you can achieve this by recording short 5-second broll clips throughout your day, capturing both work-related and personal moments. Keep these clips in a handy Google Drive for future use.
To add that extra flair, combine these clips with a voiceover or using a trending sound. This piece of content provides a glimpse into your world, making your audience feel more connected to your brand. Authenticity and relatability should be felt by your audience.
Anne: BTS clips are always fun because it can “unglamorize” your brand a bit in the sense that your audience will see that not everything is always as pristine and perfect. Or it could be the other way around. It’s your chance to showcase just how organized and professional your operations are. So you can fashion this type of content depending on what type of message you want to convey.
Unveiling the Pain Points - Embrace the Enemy
Carl: Next up, we're diving into a powerful content creation technique: addressing the pain points, aka "the enemy." Every brand or business has something they're fighting against, a problem they aim to solve or a negative aspect of life they wish to change.
For example, if you're in the herbal tea business, you could be fighting against indigestion, unhealthy beverage habits, or promoting a wellness-focused lifestyle.
Identify your "enemy" and weave it into your content to showcase not just your products or services but also your core values and mission.
Anne: One brand that comes to mind is [Cite a brand]
Expertise Unleashed - Educate and Empower
Carl: Another content creation pillar is showcasing your expertise. You've gathered valuable knowledge and skills within your field or industry, and it's time to share that wealth of information with your audience.
Create content that educates and empowers your followers, whether it's through tips, techniques, or strategies. You can present this in the form of lists, shareable graphics, or engaging videos.
By offering valuable insights, you position yourself as a trusted authority, garnering respect and loyalty from your audience.
Anne: This is the type of content that we value sharing the most. Though we try to use them as sparingly as possible so as not to “oversell” our brand and services. But if I can just bottle up or capture all the raving reviews we get from clients during brainstorming sessions and catch up calls, I would always be proud to share them since they’re a true testament to all our team’s hard work.
The Power of Storytelling - Tapping into Emotions
Carl: That’s right, I agree with that.
Now, let's talk about one of your favorite content types: storytelling.
Who could possibly say no to a good story?
This is where you can truly shine and let your brand's human side take center stage. Share your founder's story or the team's journey, showcasing the passion and dedication that drives your business forward.
Storytelling is a powerful tool for creating emotional connections with your audience. It enables you to demonstrate the heart and soul of your brand, leaving a lasting impression on those who engage with your content. Remember, authenticity is key!
Anne: Side note, I always shied away from being called a ‘Founder’ or ‘Owner’ of a business. But now I’m getting more comfortable with it because I’m no longer just thinking of myself or you and I. But treating it as a legitimate business backed up by immense talent.
Carl: And years of experience.
The Credibility Booster - Client and Industry Experience
Carl: Last but certainly not least, we have a content type that again adds immense credibility to your brand: client and industry experience.
There's nothing more convincing than hearing from satisfied customers or partners who have benefited from your products or services.
Share testimonials, case studies, or interviews where your clients speak about the impact of your brand on their lives or businesses.
This social proof not only showcases the problems you can solve but also highlights the value you bring to the table. It's the ultimate seal of approval that can turn casual followers into enthusiastic customers.
Anne: So let’s do a super quick recap. Content pillars…
